Title:
Acquisition Specialist for the NHRC contract.

Work Location:
San Diego, California

Hometown:
Elgin, Ill.

How long have you been with Odyssey?
About 2.5 years

What team/program(s) do you work for/on at Odyssey?
I work with six other Odyssey employees on Point Loma Naval Base in San Diego for the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC). We assist them with their larger contracts and simplified acquisitions for the many research projects and programs NHRC has going on, as well as a few other Navy Medical commands. My job is basically assisting the Contracting Officer at NHRC with simplified contracts for one of our sister commands, NAMRU-Dayton, and helping out with smaller and larger contracts for the Operational Readiness department at NHRC.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within Odyssey, whose job would you want and why?
I would say I’d like to switch places with our Director, Nedim Kirimca. We are just a small part of Odyssey here in San Diego, so it would be interesting to get a chance to meet some of the different teams and see what they are working on and kind of see the bigger picture of what we all do for Odyssey.

What do you like most about working at Odyssey?
I think the team I work with is the best part. We have cultivated a good work atmosphere. It’s laid back, but we all get our work done and everyone gets along and helps each other out. We have a good group of people here.

Before working at Odyssey, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
I had a job working on a parasail boat as a first mate when I moved to San Diego. I got to hang out on a boat all day in the ocean and meet and interact with people from all over the world. I was in charge of getting people in and out of harnesses, shooting videos/photos, loading and unloading the people on the parachute, and just making sure everyone was having a good time. It was a tiring job, but it was a lot of fun!

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Adventurous, laid-back, witty.

Tell us about your family (including pets)?
I don’t have any pet, but I do have a girlfriend. My immediate family lives back in Illinois. My mom and dad, brother and his wife, and my sister are all back there, along with four dogs between them.

Any favorite line from a movie and/or favorite song?
There are so many good movie lines, but one of my long time favorites is from the movie Cool Runnings, “Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, get on up, it’s bobsled time, Cool Runnings!”

Do you have an office nickname? What is it?
No nicknames for me.

What do you like to do in your leisure/spare time?
I enjoy riding my dirt bike in the desert and mountains, and camping, boating, surfing, snowboarding, traveling, and going on road trips.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I had a lot of dreams as a kid, but the main one was that I enjoyed drawing cars when I was younger so I wanted to be a car designer and design sports cars and concept cars. Then I got into racing dirt bikes around 13 years old and so it shifted to wanting to race dirt bikes professionally after that. I got close to making that dream happen, but I got out of racing once I went to college.

What would be the title of your autobiography?
I don’t know, maybe something along the lines of “A Life on the Unbeaten Path.”

Who would you want to play you in a movie?
I think it would be pretty cool if Tom Cruise could play me in a movie.

If you could have dinner with any one person (past or present) who would it be and why?
I would love to be able to have dinner with my grandpa on my dad’s side. He passed away when I was 17. He was a very smart and hard-working man, and I feel like there is so much that I never got to discuss with him.

Where would go on a dream vacation?
My dream vacation would be to take a year or so and go on a road trip on my motorcycle and ride the west coast of the U.S. to Alaska, and then go all the way down to the southern tip of South America.
